Chapter 15

Dustin

I couldn’t get Freya’s face out of my mind. The sad eyes. The look of pure heartbreak.

While usually, these kinds of things would make me laugh, this didn’t sit well with me. Even if my words weren’t lies, they were laced with daggers. Daggers that didn’t need to be aimed at Freya. She was innocent in all this.

However, as I looked down at the lifeless girl lying on the table before me, I knew I was right not to involve Freya. I knew I was not in control of myself, especially not after everything that had happened. And if she really was as dangerous as we assumed, what good would I be to anyone if she caused me to turn into an Incubus?

The girl laid there limp, her eyes pale and white as the color in her cheeks had flushed away and all that was left of her was her cold, dead body.

I panicked, unsure how to dispose of her without Freya knowing what kind of monster I was. Or maybe this was good. Perhaps she needed to see. But saying I kill people and witnessing me kill people were two different things. Would she ever look at me the same again if she saw just how deadly I really was?

Wait, why do I care so much? How has she consumed me, body and soul?

“Are you done?” I heard Oliver hush under the curtain, which I hadn’t noticed before. Its red velvety material wafted, and glimpses of my memory came back—glimpses of looking back at Freya. Glimpses of the blonde, whose hair was now a tangled mess, bent over a table.

I groaned a simple “yes,” and Oliver slid in without opening the curtain to the crowd of people that I hadn’t realized were in ear view until now as they cheered for the new dancer who was probably on stage dropping her panties to the floor.

His eyes widened when he saw the dead eyes of the girl looking up at him. “Fuck, Dustin.”

“I know.”

“This is bad.”

“I know.”

“And Freya-”

“I said, I know, Oliver!” I growled, hating myself already. “But what was I supposed to do? I didn’t even realize I was killing this one until it was too late. I blacked out again. I’m not getting any better.”

“Tempting yourself with an angel probably isn’t helping you either.” Oliver added. “Why are you playing with that fire, anyways?”

“Don’t lecture me. You were about to offer yourself up to her too. Don’t think I forgot that.” I growled.

He plucked the girl’s wrist from the table and let it fall back down changing the subject. “Not really sure how we’re supposed to dispose of this one. I can’t exactly call Jimmy after what happened at the club. I’m sure he’s hiding under some rock by now.”

“Yeah, I realize that.” I paced the floor, staring at my shoes, realizing my tie had been thrown to the opposite corner. “Where is Freya now?”

“She’s asleep on Tina.”

“On her?” My brow rose.

Oliver rolled his eyes. “Man, you really do have it bad for her.
